OUR LOVING, COMPASSIONATE AND FAITHFUL GOD
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. —Lamentations 3:22-23
This verse brings out four great truths: 1- He has great love for us. 2- His compassions never fail. 3- His compassions are new every morning. 2— His faithfulness is great.
Now we look to the cross and think about what Jesus said, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command” (John 15:12-14). The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father” (John 10:17:18). No person on the planet loves us like Jesus!
He has great compassion for us. “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.” His compassion on these “shepherdless sheep” was to teach them. May we have compassion on people as He does. May we teach them about our Good Shepherd. His compassions are “new every morning.” He is constantly working, constantly teaching and may we be like Him— constant in compassion.
His faithfulness is great. Consider our own lives and how faithful He is to us! Then think about how faithful He is to every member of His body, the church, His bride. We can also think about how faithful He is to all those people who have not called on His Name. Plus we can ponder His faithfulness in all of His creation. He not only created all things, but “is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Yes, we can fully trust His faithfulness! Dear Heavenly Father I am so thankful to know You through Jesus Your Son. May I be more like my Lord Jesus in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son. May it be so.
