BEWARE OF LIP SERVICE!

 This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. —Matthew 15:8-9

             What a dangerous place to be! With speech to make it look like one is doing the right thing in honoring our Lord, but it is only “lip service.” The mouth speaks one thing, but the heart is far from the Lord. So a person can sound really, really sincere. They outwardly can put on a show, an appearance of honoring our Lord, but inside, the real person, is what they really are and it is not what they are portraying on the outside. They speak as if they are close to our Lord, but their hearts are far away from Him.

            These people even worship and put on an outward appearance of sincerity. But their worship is in vain because they go by the commands of men and not the Word of God. Beware of anyone that does not adhere to God’s Word. Their teaching is man-centered and not God-centered.   Beware! There is much in our world that seeks to slip in among believers to deceive. Be aware and watchful. Anything that does not agree with the Word of God is not of Him. Cling to His Word— “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17).  Yes, Dear Father, please help me to cling to Your Word, live by Your Word by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
