GET READY TO FLY AWAY

GET READY TO FLY AWAY

The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away….  So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. —Psalm 90:10, 12

When you are 65 years old, as I am, this passage becomes very sobering. I read that in 2016 the average life expectancy was 72 years of age in this world.   In 2020 the average life expectancy is 72.63 years. But what is the reason to consider one’s age? It is to “teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” There is not time to waste and so take the knowledge we have and apply it properly with the time we have left. That is what we need to be doing as we approach end of life years. Of course we should be doing this right along, but as you approach the end of life the urgency becomes more in focus.

There is toil and trouble in this life.   That is just being part of this fallen world. But life soon passes and we are gone— “we fly away” to glory where there is not going to be any “more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.” Yes we may age in this life, but we are aging toward an eternity with Jesus and all who love Him.

So let us use the time we have left wisely to bring honor and glory to our Lord. Yes, dear Father, may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BPoMIQHwpo
