THE HOLY SPIRIT’S GUIDANCE
HOLY SPIRIT’S GUIDANCE
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn. —Isaiah 61:1-2
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” —Luke 4:18-19
Jesus came to:
· proclaim good news to the poor
· proclaim freedom for the prisoners
· proclaim recovery of sight for the blind
· set the oppressed free
· proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
The “day of vengeance” is still to come in the future. Jesus came to proclaim the good news and he has sent His followers to do the same so others can be saved (Romans 10:13-15). Jesus proclaimed freedom for the prisoners and we are to do the same (II Timothy 2:25-26). Jesus also proclaimed recovery of sight for the blind and we are to do so as well (II Corinthians 4:3-6). Jesus came to set the oppressed free and we are to do the same (John 8:31-32). Jesus came to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and we are to do the same (Matthew 28:19-20).
Jesus told us that as the Father sent Him “into the world, I have sent them into the world” (John 17-18). We are sent ones with the most wonderful message this world will ever hear— salvation through Jesus to live a life for Him now and be with Him forever in heaven. Oh, that perfect place! That is where those who follow Jesus are headed. May we encourage those around us to call on His Name that they too can have this hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).
Dear Father as You sent Jesus into the world with a message, so Jesus has sent me. May I be faithful to proclaim this message in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
