OVERCOMERS
OVERCOMERS
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” —John 16:33
Jesus wants us to have peace. We will have trouble in this world, but in that trouble we can have peace in Him. He overcame the world and we also are overcomers through faith in Him— “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (I John 5:4-5). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLX83HbefrI
This is the only way a person overcomes the world— by faith in Jesus. Without Him we would be doomed to hell. But though Him we are blameless and in right standing with God our Father. Think about it— if a person not knowing Jesus only sinned once in his life-time that would be enough to keep him out of relationship with God, headed for hell and not heaven.
Now brothers and sisters let us consider we who know the Lord Jesus Christ. When we blow it and sin, why would sin not keep us out of heaven? It is because we have been forgiven… past, present and future sin has been forgiven. We are blameless before our Father through His Son! Sin now breaks fellowship with Him and we need to confess immediately when we sin to stay in fellowship with Him.
Truly, we are overcomers of this world system headed up by Satan through faith in Jesus. We who have been born of God have been “rescued from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14). Let us rejoice and “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). Run overcomer!
Dear Father, oh that I be a faithful overcomer and run the race you have marked out for me, throwing off everything that hinders me from running, including the sin that so easily entangles me. Yes, may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
