THE OPEN DOOR

There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many oppose me… Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love. —I Corinthians 16:9, 13-14

Have you ever walked through an open door and felt apprehensive, not knowing what or who is on the other side? Maybe it was when you had an important meeting and you were really nervous as you walked through the door to that meeting. Maybe it was the “door” of marriage or parenting that you were walking through. It may have been the door to the doctor’s office to hear about test results or through the door to boss’s office because he wanted to “talk to you.” There are many doors we could walk through that could make us feel uneasy without knowing what or who is on the other side.

Years ago, when I was in South Carolina going to school, I remember going door to door by myself one day. I was walking up the walkway to this huge house. It was a beautiful place and very impressive. My thoughts started wandering to who might be on the other side of the door and I started to feel intimidated by the massiveness of this place. It was then that the Lord reminded me— “I am with you” and “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5)

When the Lord opens the door nobody can shut it (Revelation 3:8). In the verses above the Lord had a “wide-open door” for Paul to do a “great work.” Even though there were many who were opposing him, the door was still open and he was to walk through it. What doors is the Lord opening for you? Be assured that as a follower of His He is with you and will never forsake you. He is with you. He opens the door, walks through the door with us and will be with us on the other side of the door as well— Be courageous!

So what door is before you today? Do not fear! The one “friend who sticks closer than a brother” is with you. He will not leave or forsake you. He will help you with whatever or whoever is on the other side of that door!

Dear Father, I am so grateful for the promise of Your ever presence with me. Please help me to trust You whatever doors open for me today and for the rest of my life. May this be so in the authority of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power.
