I BELIEVE… BUT…

“I believe; help my unbelief!” —Mark 9:24

When you stepped out onto the frozen lake, did you have a tinge of doubt that the ice would hold you? How about when you were climbing that ladder to the 2nd story of the house, did you wonder if it would truly bear your weight? When you rappelled down that cliff, were there moments of doubtful trust in the rope?

There are many things we believe, but then there are moments of doubt in those same things. So it was with the dad who spoke the words above to Jesus. This dad believed that Jesus could drive the demons from his son, but there was some unbelief as to whether He could or would at the same time.

What is in our life today that is causing us to have these mixed thoughts, stretching us between belief and unbelief? Maybe you have not truly trusted Jesus yet and you are wrestling between sincerely believing, but doubts rise up. Is it that Jesus desires you to serve in some ministry area and you believe that is the case, but at the same time you have some unbelief as to whether this truly is what He desires?

May we say with the dad above, “I believe; help my unbelief!” Yes, may it be so.

Dear Father, please help me in those areas where I do believe and yet there are doubts in those places as well. Oh yes, help my unbelief in the authority of Jesus and by the power of Your Holy Spirit.
