THE CORNERSTONE
The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see. —Matthew 21:42
All my uncles on my mother’s side of the family, the Adams’ side, were stone and brick masons. Those were the days when cement blocks were used to build foundations. It was imperative that the first corner was laid out properly. That first corner would determine the placement for the rest of the building.
So it was with Jesus, the rejected Cornerstone. Rejected by man, but chosen of God (Acts 4:11; I Peter 2:4-10). He is the Cornerstone of the church. Everything believers do, say or think should be leveled and plumbed to Jesus. The church (every believer world-wide and every believer in each local church) is to be built up with Jesus, the Cornerstone, as our Guide. Anything that does not line up with Him is not of God.
Here are the questions to ask yourself. Am I lining up with Jesus according to His Word? Is the local church I am attending lining up with Jesus and His Word? No person and no church are going to be perfect because you and I are there. But individuals and churches should be striving to be faithful to the Cornerstone. May that be the case!
Dear Father, may I line up with Jesus the Cornerstone. He is the One that is rejected by man, but You are the One who chose Him. May I be faithful to Him.
