WHEN GOD “LETS THEM GO”
The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, if a country sins against me by being unfaithful and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its food supply and send famine upon it and kill its people and their animals, even if these three men—Noah, Daniel and Job—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord… “Or if I send wild beasts through that country… “Or if I bring a sword against that country… “Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out my wrath on it through bloodshed… even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness… I will make the land desolate because they have been unfaithful, declares the Sovereign Lord.” —Ezekiel 14:12-15,17,19-20; 15:8
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. —Hebrews 7:26
Ultimately, we need to understand, it is our Lord God Almighty that raises up leaders and puts them down, that raises up nations and destroys them. As followers of Jesus, let us rejoice that we are safe in Him and we know the end of the story— we will be in glory with Jesus and nothing can change that.
Meanwhile, while we are living on this planet, if a country sins against the Lord by being unfaithful, no righteous person, not even Noah, Daniel and Job, could save that country from our Lord’s hand if He is against it and is going to judge it. Our Lord has blessed America in so many ways, but America is going its own way as a country and not considering His ways. That will only end in disaster as it will for all nations of the world. If God “lets them go,” then darkness will encompass that land. We can see this happening in the world and it will happen more here in America as it turns further and further from His ways. Romans 1:18-32 make this very clear.
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”
All nations, including America, will crumble under the weight of their own wickedness. The judgment of God will come to this entire world one day. At that time—
“The kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” —Revelation 6:15-17
