SEEK TO FULFILL YOUR DUTY TO GOD IN ALL GOOD CONSCIENCE
Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, “My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.” —Acts 23:1
What is “the duty to God” that Paul said he had fulfilled “in all good conscience to this day?” In Acts 20:24 he told us that “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” Paul’s task was “testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” That’s what he lived for.
How about you and I? Are we being faithful in this task our Lord has also given us— “testifying to the good news of God’s grace?” And what is this good news?
“The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” —Romans 10:8-13
This is the “good news” of which Paul said, “I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.” Paul was faithful to the Great Co-Mission our Lord Jesus gave to him. But this Great Co-Mission was not just given to Paul, it was given to every disciple of Jesus (Matthew 28:16-20). Can we say with Paul that “I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day?” Oh, that we can because—-
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” —Romans 10:14-15
So, brothers and sisters, fellow followers/disciples of Jesus, may we have “beautiful feet” as we seek to be faithful and are “of those who bring good news!” Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNxwkEoXF80&list=RDQNxwkEoXF80&start_radio=1
