DON’T BE A SLACKER IN OUR LORD’S WORK

One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys. —Proverbs 18:9

Slack work causes destruction in many ways.  Those who are slack in their work don’t only impact themselves, but they impact others as well.  Those—

  • Slack in doing their part on a sports team will negatively affect the whole team
  • Slack in the workplace will negatively impact the whole workplace
  • Slack in relationships of any sort will negatively upset the relationship
  • Slack in their workmanship will negatively affect the product
  • Slack in their relationship with our Lord will negatively be bearing on the outcome
  • Slack in the church, the body of Christ, will negatively impact all the brothers and sisters

We seem to be living in a time where so many only do what they need to do in the workplace.  I know that is a general statement and it has probably always been like this to some degree.  We have observed it in our workplace and have heard from others who have observed it in their workplaces as well.

Unfortunately, this destructive slacking is in the professing church as well.  So many who profess Jesus are slack in working/serving Him, if they are doing so at all!  There could be many factors that appear among those professing Jesus may be slacking.  They—

  • May be young believers
  • May not be given any direction by older believers
  • May not be in a disciple-making relationship
  • May be a loner and isolate themselves
  • May not be a believer in Jesus and just profess to be
  • May not understand their giftedness
  • May not be encourage to use their giftedness
  • May be too busy with other things of this world

And I am sure there are a host of other reasons.  The point is, brother and sister, fellow follower/disciple of Jesus,

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” —Ephesians 2:8-10

So, the question is for me and for you— Are we being faithful in the works God has given us that He has prepared in advance for us to do?  Are we?  Oh, Dear Father, may I/we be faithful in the works You have for us to do for Your honor and glory and for the benefit of many others.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Precious Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0nQl_EFZEs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h3Uvu8KWF4
