RESISTANCE TO GOD’S WORD
- You shall have no other gods before Me. (Exodus 20:3)
- You shall not make for yourself a carved image. (Exodus 20:4-6)
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. (Exodus 20:7)
- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. (Exodus 20:8-11)
- Honor your father and your mother. (Exodus 20:12)
- You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13)
- You shall not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14)
- You shall not steal. (Exodus 20:15)
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. (Exodus 20:16)
- You shall not covet. (Exodus 20:17)
My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. —Proverbs 7:1-3
God’s Word impacts people when they read it! Is it any wonder that people have a fit when others want to post the Ten Commandments. It is because we have kingdoms in conflict— the kingdom of darkness which the devil heads up and people need to “come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (II Timothy 2:26). Jesus is the king in the kingdom of light. These two kingdoms are in utter conflict. So, it is no wonder that those who are in “the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” are at war with God’s Word. The devil hates God’s Word and so does those who are in his trap to do his will.
The devil, and those trapped to do his will, hate what the Ten Commandments stand for…
- The first and second command tells people to focus on God and not man-made gods. Unfortunately, man has many gods he worships, even the god of themselves. They don’t want God or His ways. That is why there is so much opposition to the Ten Commandments posted in places where people can read them.
- Not only is there resistance to God, but it is very common to use God’s Name as a profane word punctuating the speech of those who do not live for Him. This is very obvious evidence of rebellion against our Lord God Almighty.
- Keeping one day set apart to reflect on God and who He is. Today, in our culture, people are busy seven days a week, filled with work, family and leisure activities. They don’t have time for God.
- Honoring authority starts in the home. When children do not honor their parents, you can be sure that will be carried over in dishonoring many authority figures. That is very clear in our culture today.
- 50% of murders are not solved. Murderers literally get away with murder… but God knows.
- Married people having sex outside their marriage destroys relationships. Our culture is littered with brokenness because of sexual promiscuity.
- Wow… theft is out of control at all levels of our society.
- Lying is just a way of life for so many
- Wanting what others have, instead of being content with what one has, permeates our society.
Can you imagine what our society and nation would be like if people willingly and lovingly followed God’s Word? Unfortunately, as we near the end of the age, disobedience will only increase. But let us be faithful in doing His will by the power of His Holy Spirit and in the authority of His Precious Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRfU2kbBaoU&list=RDzRfU2kbBaoU&start_radio=1
