THIS IS JESUS!
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.” —Hebrews 1:1-4
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. —Hebrews 2:14-15
Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose. —Psalm 25:12
As we approach this Christmas of 2025, let us consider Who this Babe born in Bethlehem was/is. He—
- God has spoken to us in these last days through His Son (John 1:1)
- God has appointed Jesus (And we are joint-heirs with Jesus! —Romans 8:17)
- God made the universe through Jesus (John 1:3; Colossians 1:15-16)
- Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory (John 1:18)
- Jesus is the exact representation of God (John 5:18)
- Jesus sustains all things by His powerful Word (Colossians 1:17)
- Jesus made purification for sins (I John 2:2)
- Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Hebrews 12:2)
- Jesus is much superior than the angels
- Jesus’ Name is much superior than the angels
- Jesus is the Son
- God is His Father
- Jesus shared in our humanity
- Jesus died to break the power the devil
- Jesus died to break the power of death
- Jesus died to free us from the slavery by our fear of death
- Jesus will instruct those who fear Him in the ways they should choose
This Babe of Bethlehem was not just a Babe in Bethlehem! Along with May we can say— “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior” (Luke 1:47). And the angel said to Joseph, “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, f because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
