PAUL’S/GOD’S DESIRE FOR FOLLOWERS OF JESUS

We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. —Colossians 1:9-12

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. —Colossians 2:2-4

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. —Colossians 2:8

Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. —Colossians 2:18-19

Here are some desires of Paul’s/God’s for the Colossian believers and also for us! —

To be filled with the knowledge of God’s will
To be filled with God’s understanding that the Spirit gives
To live a life worthy of our Lord
To please our Lord in every way
To bear fruit according to His glorious might
To grow in the knowledge of God
To be strengthened with power according to His glorious might
To have great endurance
To have great patience
To give joyful thanks to our Father
To have been qualified to share inheritance with His people in the kingdom of light
To be encouraged in heart
To be united in love
To have the full riches of complete understanding
To know the mystery of God— namely Christ in who are hidden all the treasures and wisdom and knowledge
To not be deceived by fine sounding arguments
To not be taken captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy
To not be taken captive by human tradition
To not be taken captive by the elementary spiritual forces of this world
To not be disqualified by those delighting in false humility
To not be disqualified by those delighting in the worship of angels
To not be disqualified by those going into great detail of what they have seen
To not be disqualified by those who are puffed up by idle notions
To not be disqualified by those with an unspiritual mind
To not be disqualified by those who have lost connection with the head
To not be disqualified by those disconnected from body life that is being grown by God
