YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
Then the Spirit of God came on Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper. Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’” But they plotted against him, and by order of the king they stoned him to death in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple. King Joash did not remember the kindness Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had shown him but killed his son, who said as he lay dying, “May the Lord see this and call you to account.” —II Chronicles 24:20-22
“Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your ancestors who killed them. So you testify that you approve of what your ancestors did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs. Because of this, God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’ Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all. —Luke 11:47-51
Zechariah was faithful to the Lord. He proclaimed boldly what the Lord said— “This is what God says: ‘Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper. Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken you.’” People can act religiously and think they are doing the Lord’s will. So many times religious people plot against God’s servants to persecute and/or kill them. The same occurs today. God’s servants today, seeking to be faithful to Him, are being killed presently for their faithfulness and many times it is by those who are religious of some sort. They do not consider the good followers of Jesus have done. Instead, they reject their message and persecute and/or kill them.
This is what happened to Zechariah. His dad, Jehoiada the priest, had been so faithful to the Lord and to the king, but that was not remembered. His faithful son, Zechariah, was killed for his faithfulness to the Lord and in proclaiming the Lord’s Word. As he was dying, Zechariah said, “May the Lord see this and call you to account.” Little did he know that would be carried out in a way that he did not see as Jesus said, “this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.”
Yes, our Lord God Almighty sees everything and will bring about justice in His timing. We can be sure of that. Nothing happening in this world goes unnoticed and He to Him “everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37). So, whether words or actions— all will give an account to Him. Nothing escapes His notice. And so, Dear Father, may I live faithfully for You in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFvPOZ2Oay8&list=RDvFvPOZ2Oay8&start_radio=1
