LORD, YOUR WORD IS WHAT I WANT TO HEAR AND DO!
Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: ‘Hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! —Ezekiel 13:2-3
Now, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own imagination. —Ezekiel 13:17
Let’s take our refuge in our Lord God Almighty and not in those who speak from “their own imagination.” Be sure to listen to the Word of God and not the word of man. Thank You, my Lord God Almighty, that You have given us Your Word that we may look to see if what someone saying that You said is true or not. Beware… there are those “who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing” or have heard nothing from the Lord. They are “scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires” (Jude 1:18). You and I are responsible to read and listen to God’s Word ourselves to see if what is being spoken is true or not. Let us be faithful in this!
Do you and I truly look to God’s Word ourselves or do we just listen to what people say and believe it is true just because they said it? Are we following a certain person because we like them or because we know they adhere to the Word of God? I have listened to well-known speakers, but I surely don’t accept everything they say if it is contrary to God’s Word or does not line up with God’s Word. There are times when I say, “Where did they get that from?” as I have checked it out for myself. We need to be vigilant in making sure this is what God is saying. Yes, Dear Father, I want to hear what You have to say— whether I read it for myself or am listening to someone speak Your Word. Please help me to always look to Your Word to understand what You are saying for myself and not just take for face value what someone else is saying— not that they are wrong, but I need to see for myself what You say. May I do this by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
