ATONED FOR AND FORGIVEN!

ATONED FOR AND FORGIVEN!

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”  Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”  Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”  And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”  —Isaiah 6:5-8

The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.  He will be a holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. —Isaiah 8:13-14

The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” —Psalm 110:4

When Isaiah saw the holiness of our Lord God Almighty, he responded— “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”  And should that be how each of us should respond when we understand the holiness of God?

“Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”  Amen!  Isaiah’s sin was atoned for and then he said, “I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”  And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”  Should that not be the response of every follower of Jesus who has atone for our sin (I John 2:2) and commanded us to be witnesses and make disciples (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:18-20)?

“The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.”  This is exactly what Jesus said, “But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him” (Luke 12:5).   He “will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”  And again, of Jesus it is also said, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”  They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.  Is that being said of us?  May it not be so!

The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”  Again, of Jesus it is said, “Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.”  And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” —Hebrews 5:5-6
