LISTEN AND WALK IN OBEDIENCE

You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws—that you will listen to him. —Deuteronomy 26:17

            Do remember the day when the Lord God Almighty revealed Himself to you?  Remember that time when you said you would follow Him— that you would obey Him—- that you would listen to Him?

            I remember that day clearly in February of 1979.  He said to me, “Turn from your evil ways or be condemned forever… and become a priest.”  I had been reading my roommate’s New Testament when he was not in the room.  The Lord used something I read to bring that message to me and the message was loud and clear.  There were three parts of the message He spoke to me.  1- “Turn from your evil ways.”  I am glad the Lord didn’t say repent because I would not have understood what that meant.  2- “Or be condemned forever.”  This was the most powerful part of the message that got my attention.  The consequence for not turning from my evil ways was to “be condemned forever.”  Here is the consequence for anyone who will reject Jesus— they will be condemned forever and that is a very long and unending time— forever.  3- “And become a priest.”  With my religious background the first thing that came to mind was a collared robed individual.  But God’s Word says—

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” —I Peter 2:9-10

            I was to leave my self-centered life… or be condemned forever… and I was to become part of His royal priesthood to “declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”  So that change began (didn’t happen all at once) back in February of 1979 and is continuing today in this year of 2025 as I seek to listen to Him and be faithful to His desires.  So, you remember that day You called on Him?  Are you being faithful today?  May it be so.
