TRUST THE WILL OF GOD
TRUST THE WILL OF GOD
After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” —Genesis 22:1-2
Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” —Genesis 22:5
And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here am I, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called the name of that place, “The LORD will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.” —Genesis 22:7-14
By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death. —Hebrews 11:17-19
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. —Matthew 7:21
Will we, are we, doing God’s will? Will we do whatever He desires of us, even when it may not make sense to anyone else or even to us. Abraham was asked to do something that, even with us, we wonder… Yet when he was asked by God to offer up the promised heir, he did so readily. What a hard thing to do and yet Abraham “reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.” Abraham believed that Isaac was the promised heir and so God would have to raise Isaac from the dead to fulfill His promise to Abraham. This is how Abraham thought.
Let us also reason from what God says and not depend only on our own reasoning. Our reasoning is faulty, but God’s reasoning is perfect. So, let us trust Him with what He has to say to us. And let us also be obedient to what He says. We will only see the workings of God when we are obedient to the will/Word of God. So… let us trust Him!
Dear Father, may I trust You with what You ask me to do even when I cannot see how things are going to fully be worked out. I know the end of what You are doing in all Your Creation. Help me to be faithful with the part You have for me. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. So be it… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsQmsEE_2-s
