Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” —Galatians 3:11
For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” —Romans 4:3
No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. —Romans 4:20-25
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. —II Corinthians 5:21
It is truly astounding that God has accounted us righteous and “that in Jesus we “become the righteousness of God.” All of this happens when we put our faith in Jesus and call on His Name to save us (Romans 10:13). The sinless, spotless, blameless, holy Son of God took our penalty and punishment for our sin so we could be accounted righteous by trusting in Him and His work on behalf of us! Wow… how true it is that “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Have you put your faith in Jesus? Have you called on His Name to save you? If so, then you have been given the righteousness of God through the finished work of Jesus on the cross by that faith! It is God’s gift to you and that is the only way you can be in relationship with God and the only way you can be in Heaven with Him and all who love Him. What a gift!
