SERVE AS HE HAS EQUIPPED YOU!

SERVE AS HE HAS EQUIPPED YOU!

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ —Matthew 25:35-40

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?  Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?” —Isaiah 58:6-7

Ever wonder what ministry our Lord would have you involved in?  The above two passages give us indications of some areas He expects His followers to be involved in.  Some of those opportunities are—

  • Helping those who are hungry— serving by providing food
  • Helping those who are thirsty— serving by providing water
  • Helping foreigners— serving them by welcoming them
  • Helping those who need clothes— serving them by providing clothing
  • Helping the sick— serving them by visiting them
  • Helping those in prison— serving them by going to them
  • Helping by loosing the chain of injustice— serving those in unjust situations
  • Helping those that are bond by a yoke— serving those who are bound
  • Helping the oppressed— serving to free the oppressed
  • Helping the homeless— serve by providing shelter
  • Helping family— serve by meeting family needs

Again, I ask, “Where does our Lord want you to be serving?”  These are a few examples of areas He expects His followers to be serving in as we are seeking to be witnesses and to be making disciples.  So, where would our Lord have you serving in?  Ponder the gifts, abilities and resources He has given you.  He has given them “to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).  So let us be “a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good” (Titus 2:14).  Yes, Dear Father, may it be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb8WZ2ND4BY
