I CAN SEE!

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”  “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.  As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.  While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”  After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go, “he told him, “Wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.  His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?” Some claimed that he was.  Others said, “No, he only looks like him.”  But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”  “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.  He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”  “Where is this man?” they asked him.  “I don’t know,” he said. —John 9:1-12

Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses! —John 9:28

To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.  Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”  “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”  Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”  Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. —John 9:34-38

This man was blind all his life, blind from birth.  Jesus’ His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”  Jesus replied, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”  Many are quick to jump to the conclusion that someone must have done wrong, must have sinned to be in the condition they are in.  Jesus made it clear that was not the case with this man who could not see even from the day he was born.  No, instead, Jesus said, “this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”  All those years this man was blind was leading up to something marvelous God was going to display in him.

Jesus, “spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go, “he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.”  Wow… this man started off his day like so many other days and by the end of the day his life would be totally changed by Jesus!  Even his neighbors and others who had seen him begging couldn’t believe this was the same man.  He said that he was the man and that Jesus had taken away his blindness.

When the religious leaders question the once blind man, “Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses!”  They said just the opposite of what Jesus told his disciples when they told him that “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.”

When “Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”  “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”  Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”  Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.”  The once blind man became a disciple of Jesus while the religious leaders came to a different conclusion— “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath” (John 9:16).  Though these religious leaders could see with their eyes, they were blind to the fact of Who Jesus was/is.

Dear Father, I thank You that You took the blinders off my eyes so I could understand who Jesus is.  Now, out of eternal gratitude, may I live faithfully according to Your desires by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  May this be so for Your honor and glory.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdxIpseL-fM&list=RDUdxIpseL-fM&start_radio=1
