PHYSICAL TRAINING IS OF SOME VALUE, BUT GODLINESS HAS VALUE FOR ALL THINGS
So here I (Caleb) am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. —Joshua 14:10-11
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up… However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” —Luke 18:1, 8
Years ago, I read this verse— “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures…” (Psalm 90:10). So there is something to keeping our strength up and so that is one reason I go to the gym—- strength training. In the verse today, Caleb said, “So here I (Caleb) am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.” Caleb’s strength was as great at age 85 as it was in his younger years. That is truly amazing. So yes, there is something to be said about keeping our strength up as it could extend our years here as our Lord guides.
But we always have to remember that “physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (I Timothy 4:8). Yes, there is some value in physical training in this life, “but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” Godliness affects us both now and in the life to come and so godliness has greater value.
One other reason, the main reason, as to why I go to the gym it for conversations with people who do not know our Lord or whose relationship with Him needs to be strengthened. I was just thinking, “Have I met any followers of Jesus in the gym?” No, not many that is for sure, but there have been many conversations with those who do not know our Lord. So, when I go the the gym I “always pray and not give up.” I do not give up praying for conversations with those who don’t know our Lord, trusting He will guide me to the open person, the person who has a desire to talk and He does! There have been some amazing opportunities.
So, how about you? Are you keeping your “strength” up? Do you “always pray and not give up?” May it be so, Dear Father, by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Yes, may this be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpbZqMJ-B44&list=RDbpbZqMJ-B44&start_radio=1
