THE SON OF GOD SAVES!

THE SON OF GOD SAVES!

This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. —John 5:18

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. —John 5:24

The Jews were seeking to kill Jesus.  Why?  Because, according to their line of thought, He was breaking the Sabbath by healing on that day and encouraging the invalid to get up and carry his bed.  Jesus was working on the Sabbath and so was the man carrying his bed!  The Jews did not care about, or be joyful for, the man who had been healed.  Here’s a guy that could not walk and now he could.  They cared nothing about that.  They were more concerned with breaking the Sabbath according to their interpretation.

The Jews knew the claim that Jesus was making— “calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.”  This was blasphemy to them and they wanted to kill Him for such a claim.  So, when people say that Jesus never claimed to be God, then they have not read the Word of God very carefully or just simply want to deny the fact.  The Jews of Jesus’ day knew exactly what He was claiming and they wanted to kill Him for it.

So we can be encouraged when Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”  He, as God the Son, has the authority to say such things and we can take great comfort in them.  He said—

  • Those who hear His Word
  • Those who believe the Father sent Him
    • Those who believe have eternal life
    • Those who believe will not come into judgment
    • Those who believe passed from death
    • Those who believe passed to life— life eternal

So, brothers and sisters, fellow followers of Jesus, let us rejoice and praise the Son of God for all the promises He has given us.  In His authority He will carry out what He has promised and we can be absolutely sure of that.  And I thank You, Dear Father, that I can trust Your Word.  May I rejoice and praise You in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus for all you have done for me.  Yes, may I do so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFRjr_x-yxU  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYZw0dfLmLk
