SPEAK TRUTH, LIVE TRUTHFULLY

SPEAK TRUTH, LIVE TRUTHFULLY

Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed. —Matthew 27:13-14

So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up. Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.” Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. —Matthew 27:17-20

So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.” —Matthew 27:24

Pilate was greatly amazed that Jesus did not try to defend Himself against the accusations made against Him.  When One is the Truth, there is no need to defend Oneself.  Jesus had done nothing wrong, but this was the plan of God— “This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross” (Acts 2:23).  Yes, this was God’s sovereign plan, but man is still responsible for their part.

So too was Pilate responsible for his part in the crucifixion and death of Jesus.  “For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up” and he still allowed this mockery to take place.  Not only that but his wife came to him and said, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”  But he paid no attention to her…

Because “chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus” and “when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, ‘“I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”’  Just because Pilate said that he was “innocent of this man’s blood” did not make it so!  No, he was one of the “wicked men” that helped the Jews “put him to death by nailing him to the cross.”

Just because people speak words does not make it true.  Pilate could say that he was innocent of the blood of Jesus, but his actions prove his words false.  Beware of people’s words.  Just because someone says something does not make it true and their lies can bring about great destruction.  Beware of liars!

Please, Dear Father, may I speak truth in the Name of Jesus.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmqSfr1ENY
