LABORERS IN THE HARVEST ARE NEEDED!
LABORERS IN THE HARVEST ARE NEEDED!
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” —Matthew 9:37-38
First, Jesus said that the harvest is plentiful. 2nd, He said that the laborers are few. 3rd He tells us to pray earnestly. 4th, He said our prayer should be that He would send out laborers into His harvest. This is such an important communication our Lord has given us. Few laborers, little harvest. We need more laborers in His harvest! Are you one of those? Are you willing to be one of those? Are you praying for more laborers? Will you pray for more laborers?
It is interesting after Jesus talked to His disciples about this, He then sent them out into the harvest. Disciples of Jesus should be involved already in the harvest. We see this here with the twelve, but then again, we see this again with the 72 others—
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. —Luke 10:1-3
Jesus told these also to “pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Then He also sent these 72 immediately into the harvest. So, do we want to see the end of this age? Do we want to see the new heavens and earth that our Lord will bring to pass? How much responsibility do you think we have in His plan? If indeed, “this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come (Matthew 24:14),” then are we not responsible for bringing the gospel to the whole world? Are we not responsible to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20)? Are not these the directives given to His followers? How are we doing? Again, how much do you want to see things come to a conclusion. You and I are part of that process… or should be!
Recently, Elaine and I were traveling and then it was time to go home. Before we could go home there were certain things we had to do: pack, clean, drive to the airport, turn in the rental, go through the process of getting on the plane etc. We had these responsibilities in order to get home, to finish the trip.
Our Lord has given us responsibilities to finish the work He has given us. It will not be finished unless we do the work He has given us. Read this again— “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” May you and I be faithful to His call on our lives to be “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19) and disciple-makers (Matthew 28:19-20). Let’s go to the harvest!
Dear Father, I thank You for saving me and now may I be faithful to those who will be saved by calling on Jesus. May I share the good news with others however I can. May this be in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWwYmAMKmBQ
