RIGHT FOCUS OF RESOURCES GOD HAS GIVEN US

RIGHT FOCUS OF RESOURCES GOD HAS GIVEN US

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. —I Timothy 6:9-11

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.   They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. —I Timothy 6:17-19

Our attitude toward money will help to determine our focus in life.  Those whose sole desire is to become rich, that is their focus, their affection, will “fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”  So, let us have the proper perspective on wealth.

It is “love of money (that) is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”  Even those who have professed Jesus have been and can be affected by the love of money.  Yes, the wrong focus on money can lead to destruction.  The follower of Jesus is to “ flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.”  We need to remember whose we are and who we are and what we are to be about.  The love of money will undermine one’s focus from loving God first!  And we also will not love people as we ought to.  A wrong foundation will end in ruin (Matthew 7:24-27).

Those who are rich are not “to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.”  Instead, the rich “are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”  They are to put their wealth to work in the kingdom, having an eternal focus and not just living for the temporary.

Dear Father, may Elaine and I have a proper focus with the resources you have given to us.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbMejWoW1XI
