BE FAITHFUL WITH HIS HELP!

“We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree…”   Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. —Acts 5:28-30. 41-42

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. —Psalm 121:1-2

Jesus’ disciples said, “We must obey God rather than men.”  They had been “strictly charged…  not to teach in this name.”  Not only that, but they confronted the Jewish leadership by saying, “The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.”  The disciples were beaten and charged again not to speak in the Name of Jesus (v40).  What would you have done?  Would you have obeyed what God has said about being witnesses and making disciples or not in the face of those threats?  How about today— are you being a witness and making disciples— even in the face of threats?

            What was the disciple’s response?

  • They left the presence of the council
  • They were rejoicing when they left
  • They rejoiced because they were counted worthy to suffer for Jesus
  • Every day they taught and preached in the temple
  • Every day they taught and preached from house to house
  • They did not cease from doing so

Again, what would have been our response if we were in their place?  Maybe we have been told to stop.  Will we?  We are told to be witnesses and disciple-makers by the authority of Jesus, our Creator and Sustainer, our Sovereign Lord over all.  Will we be faithful to this call?  May it be so, Dear Father, by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus my Lord and Savior, King and Friend.

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. —Psalm 121:1-2

We are not witnesses in our own strength, nor are we disciple-makers in our own strength.  Jesus said that He would be with us until the end of this age on doing so(Matthew 28:20).  He is with us as we witness and make disciples.  So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” (Hebrews 3:6).  Yes!  Our help comes from our Lord.  Trust Him!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfiYWaeAcRw
