MORE BLESSED TO GIVE

One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. —Proverbs 11:24

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ —Acts 20:35

            How have you given recently?  Are you withholding what you should give?  Those who withhold will only suffer want.  This can be true in the area of time, treasure and talent.  Are you giving of your time as our Lord desires according to His plans and purposes?  Or, are you filling your time with what you desire?  How about your “treasure?”  Are you giving of your treasure as our Lord desires according to His plans and purposes?  Or, are you spending your treasure on what you desire?  How about your talents?  Are you giving of your talents as our Lord desires according to His plans and purposes?  Or, are you using your talents on what you desire? 

            Richness in a person’s life comes when they are givers.  “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  Sure, it is a blessing to receive, but it is a greater blessing to give.  So, where is your focus?  Paul worked hard so he could help others, give to others, bless others.  He did not covet “anyone’s silver or gold or clothing” (Acts 20:33).  He was not serving to get, but to give and He put much effort into that focus.  Where is our focus?

            If we live with a focus on the need for someone to meet our desires, then we are going to be wanting and have an emptiness.  Praise God when people give toward us!  But the greater blessing is when we are giving.  So, I ask you— “How are you giving and are you content?” 

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:12-13). 

            Of course, we can look to Jesus who gave His all at the cross so we could be redeemed for a selfish life to a selfless life like His.  So, Dear Father, may this be our focus.  May we be givers, blessing others for Your honor and glory by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJgyQGl33kw
