ONLY HE KNOWS OUR LIFE SPAN

ONLY HE KNOWS OUR LIFE SPAN

O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for you. —Isaiah 33:2

I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!” Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful. The LORD preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling; I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living. —Psalm 116:1-9

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. —Psalm 116:15

Our Lord is always gracious to us.  As we ponder who He is and who we are, it is amazing that He even considers us, say nothing about His great love for us!  In our rebelliousness He could just wipe us out.  But in His grace, He extends mercy to us.  Oh, how grateful we are that He does love us so.  This is truly astounding, but I am so grateful!

He hears us at all times whether things are going well or when the snares of death lay hold of us.  Death pains may be upon us and we may be feeling distress and anguish, but we have to remember whose we are and call “on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!”  Only He is able to ultimately deliver us from death.  Our life is in hands and only He knows the number of our days— “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 130:16). So Lord, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).  Yes, let us look to our Lord who alone holds our life in His hands.

We need to rest in the Lord who can deliver “my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.”  Let us “walk before the LORD in the land of the living” as long as we breathe and also always remember that “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.”  May we have the Apostle Paul’s mindset—

“If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.” —Philippians 1:22-26

What a joy to know as a follower of Jesus that ‘If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord” (Romans 14:8).  So, fear not “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).  We are safe in His hands and thank You, Dear Father, that this is the case by the power of Your Holy Spirit and the authority of Your Son Jesus.  We are safe in You! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsQmsEE_2-s
