FOLLOW JESUS— ONLY HE FULLY SATISFIES
(Today’s fasting and prayer Scripture— Matthew 6:5-15—- Praise God for Who He Is— Holy! Pray for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done, for daily provisions, for forgiveness, to be faithful to forgive others, to be kept from temptation and to be delivered from the evil one. This will be my prayer focus that I seek within the hour of 6am, 12pm and 6pm)
FOLLOW JESUS— ONLY HE FULLY SATISFIES
And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. —I Samuel 12:21-24
When people are not following our Lord, they are following “empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty.” We are told in Proverbs 11:4 that “Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.” Righteousness only comes in Jesus. He makes those righteous who call on His Name to be saved (Romans 10:13). All other ways are empty and do not profit at all— “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” (Mark 8:36-37). Again, our righteousness only comes through Jesus— “The words ‘it was credited to him’ were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification” (Romans 4:23-26). Following Jesus is the only way we “may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
So, are you following “after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty?” Focusing alone on money, career, reputation, power, family or anything else “cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty.” Only Jesus gives us a life that is full and profitable. When He is our focus, everything else falls into place with proper perspective.
