BRIBERY DESTROYS THE INNOCENT AND BOLSTERS THE WICKED
(Today’s fasting and prayer Scripture— I Timothy 2:1-6—- Pray for government leaders at all levels and that people will come to a knowledge of the Truth and be saved. This will be my prayer focus that I seek within the hour of 6am, 12pm and 6pm)
BRIBERY DESTROYS THE INNOCENT AND BOLSTERS THE WICKED
They took bribes and perverted justice. —I Samuel 8:3
God’s Word is very clear as to what bribes do— “Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent” (Exodus 23:8). There are those who actually see the truth of a matter, but bribes will have them act as if they are blind. Those bribed will twist the truthful words of the innocent to make them look like they are lying and justice will be perverted.
We can see this happening in our world easily today. Unfortunately this happens way to often in government, but not only in government. Truth is twisted to make it seem like the person speaking is lying or manipulating and this is all because those bribed are greedy of gain at the cost of innocent lives. Bribes will cause those accepting them to show partiality (Deuteronomy 16:19) and come up with wicked schemes against the innocent and for the wicked (Psalm 26:10). Bribes acquit the guilty and let them go free while punishing the innocent. Bribes are usually taken in secret, but their result can be seen in the perversion of justice (Proverbs 17:3). Wicked people profit from the poor by taking bribes by unjust gain (Ezekiel 22:12). Greed is so destructive!
If you look at the much wrong in our culture and government, you can be sure that bribery is taking place behind the scenes. This is nothing new. We just need to be aware of it and be on our guard. Yes, Dear Father, please help us to be wise as we navigate life in this world. Please give us wisdom to do so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
