GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED!

GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED!

For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it.” —Genesis 19:13

Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the LORD out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. —Genesis 19:24-25

And he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace. So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley… —Genesis 19:28-29

God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. —Psalm 7:11-15

No man is escaping anything they have done.  God knows it all— “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13).  There was such an outcry against the people of Sodom that the Lord sent two angels to destroy it.  The outcry against Sodom was not just about their sin of sexual perversion— “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen” (Ezekiel 16:49-50).  There is a line drawn by our Lord and when it is crossed He will judge a city, a people, a region or even a nation.

The residents of Sodom and the surrounding cities were destroyed.  Even all vegetation was burned up.  Everything was burned up as “the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the LORD out of heaven” and Abraham “looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace. So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley.”  Yes, there was a line crossed where the outcry of sin brought judgment from our Lord.

“God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.”  He does this in different ways.  With Sodom it was destruction by fire, but…

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. —Romans 1:18-20

And so God “gave them over” (Romans 1:24, 26, 28) to their own destructive desires (Romans 1:21-32).   Yes, “God is a righteous judge and the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.”  They are judged in that “They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed” (Ephesians 4:18-19).  How sad a judgment to be separated from the life of God… forever…

Dear Father please help me to warn others of their plight without You and the good news of the gospel— our only hope.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_gBpvihKcQ
