THE HUMBLE RECEIVE HIS FAVOR
THE HUMBLE RECEIVE HIS FAVOR
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. —I Peter 5:5-7
Pride has the “I” in the center of the word just like pride in a person is all about them being the center of attention. Sentences often start with “I” when the prideful are communicating. It’s all about them. They are center of the universe… Attitudes like that are opposed by God. It is not all about us. It is all about Him and those people He desires us to serve.
Having a humble attitude is just a known characteristic about a person. They don’t go around claiming to be humble. That would show they are not. Humbleness in a person’s life is just part of their character. That is how they live. They don’t seek to be the center of attention. They probably rather not be the center of attention. They would like to just go about what our Lord desires of them and trust Him for the results. They also understand and desire for Him to get all the glory. They seek none for themselves. They understand what Jesus said— “So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty’” (Luke 17:10). We are to lovingly serve Him. It is a responsibility He have given us.
God seeks to work through people with a humble attitude and lifestyle and He will do so in His time. “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). We cannot fully understand God— only what He has revealed to us. But what He has revealed to us we are to humbly, lovingly and faithfully apply to our lives to honor Him.
Are you anxious about anything? Give it to Him. He cares for us like no other can even when He knows more about us than others ever will. So may we live humble, anxiety free lives as He seeks to work in and through our lives. He knows what is best even when we do not understand so much. He will extend His favor to those who are humble. So may we live to experience His grace upon us. Let us be faithful with what we do know. Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son and my Lord Jesus. So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Sx_U0Ztr8
