OH, TO GET AWAY!

OH, TO GET AWAY!

Oh that I had in the desert a travelers’ lodging place, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, a company of treacherous men. —Jeremiah 9:2

I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!  I would fly away and be at rest.  “Behold, I would wander far away, I would lodge in the wilderness.” —Psalm 55:6-7

Ever have the thoughts of wanting to “just get away” saying something like— “Oh, I would like to just go away on some deserted tropical Island for a while?”  Well, you are not alone.  I imagine many people have had this thought come into their minds at one time or another.  Both Jeremiah and David did.

Jeremiah was thinking of a desert dwelling far away from people.  He wanted to be away from the people that were “a company of treacherous men.”  It we are honest there are times when we just want to be by ourselves, somewhere quiet and beautiful— some mountain top or beach side dwelling.

David also wanted to get “away and be at rest.”  He also was thinking about a “a lodge in the wilderness.”  There are times when we just desire to have some peace and quiet and be by ourselves.  Oh, how we desire not to have conflict.  What joy heaven will be— peace and joy forever!

Jesus would get away as well… by Himself.  But He got away to have peace and quiet, away from the crowds, while spending time talking with His Father (Matthew 14:23; Mark 6:46; Luke 6:12).  This is how to best use our time when we need to “get away.”  Spend time talking with our Lord God Almighty… and listen to Him.  Yes, that is how we truly will have peace and quiet.  Take that time!  It is great to get physically away from time to time, but we can get away with Him anytime!

Dear Father, please help me to get away to spend time with You apart from the normal moving of life.  Oh, that I would do this by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWNwQg3xoJw&list=RDmWNwQg3xoJw&start_radio=1
