FOLLOWERS OF JESUS ARE IN PROCESS
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. —Colossians 3:1-10
What am I seeking? What is my mind set on? Where do my desires focus on? How and in what manner am I living life? How am I being renewed?
I was dead in my sin as I lived in the ways of this world, but I have died to those things and have bee raise with Jesus to new life. I am to seek the eternal things, the heavenly things, the things that are God’s desires. This is where my mind is to focus and impact the way I live life now.
Jesus is coming back or I will die first and be with Him in glory. This fact should encourage me to flee from “sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” It is because of these things that “the wrath of God is coming.” I am not to have anything to do with them. Instead, I am to “put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” May I be doing so!
We put off the old self with its practices and put on the new self. This new self “is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Those of us who have “called on the Name of the Lord” to be saved are in process. We are being renewed and this renewal comes through “knowledge after the image of” our creator— “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2). Yes, we are in process and let us remember this as we interact with one another. Every follower of Jesus is in that “being renewed” process. Let us not forget that.
Thank You Father that You are changing me to be more like Jesus. I will be so glad when I am in glory with Him where everything will be perfect… where I will be perfect and never fail You again or anyone else. Yes, I so look forward to that day. Until then, may I seek to be faithful to Your desires by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Yes, may it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3M3nnD8xKw
