OUR LORD MAKES THE DEAD LIVE!
OUR LORD MAKES THE DEAD LIVE!
I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. —Isaiah 43:25
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. —Colossians 2:13-14
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience. All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath. But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. —Ephesians 2:1-5
Spiritually dead people cannot make themselves alive any more than a physically dead person can make themselves live again. It was God that had to do it for us. It was God who made us spiritually alive again— “having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” Jesus provided the way for us to be forgiven, come into a relationship with God now and then be with Him in heaven forever by taking our punishment and judgment for sin at the cross. He was our substitutionary sacrifice— “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (I John 2:2). The work to be made spiritually alive again is done. Now “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). A person has to, out of an act of one’s will, received this gift that our Lord offers us (Romans 6:23).
Why had God done this? We are told that He has done it for His “own sake” or “because of who I Am” or for His own “intents/purposes.” How different God is from us! Look how He forgives all who call on Him! He forgives all their sins… all of them. We have a hard time wrapping our heads around that and unfortunately because we have a hard time understanding the wonderful work God has done, we come up with false ideas and teaching, motivations and actions. We were dead in our sins! He made us alive when we were dead in our sins! He did it and there was nothing we could do to make ourselves alive. All who call on Him for this wonderful salvation for sin will be saved, forgiven, enabled to live for Him now and be with Him forever in heaven after they die. Dear Father it is so overwhelmingly amazing what You have done for me through Your Son Jesus and through the power of Your Holy Spirt. Oh, that I will be and do what You desire. Yes, may this be so!
