WITHOUT GOD THERE IS HOPELESSNESS!
There is no one like you, Lord, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears. —I Chronicles 17:20
How wonderful to be able to speak these words and believe them. To know there is no one like our Lord is such an encouragement and comfort. To know there is no God but He gives hope for today and the future. To have come to the point in our lives to have heard with our own ears about our Lord God Almighty and then to have called on His Name for salvation for sin and to a relationship with Him is utter joy! When He rules people’s hearts then people do the right thing much more consistently, not perfectly, but surely more consistent.
So what happens when people do not acknowledge our Lord God? If the goodness of God is not ruling people’s hearts then the evil of Satan will be—
“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.” —II Timothy 2:24-26
A few things in this passage: 1- There are those who oppose God and need to be gently instructed. 2- Instruction takes place in hopes that God will grant them repentance— turning from their own ways to follow His ways. 3- Instruction also leads them to a knowledge of the truth. 4- Instruction will also help them come to their senses— to be thinking rightly. 5- Instruction will help them escape the trap of the devil— whatever he is using to hold them from calling on Jesus. 6- Instruction will rescue them from the devil’s imprisonment— he has them captive. 7- Instruction will free them from doing the devil’s will to doing God’s will. Instructing people in God’s Word and their applying His Word to their lives will free them from Satan’s power.
Evil will always be present in this present fallen, sinful world. Satan’s wickedness controlling a person causes them to do his will— evil things. Evil cannot be eradicated by politics. Evil cannot be eliminated by laws. The only way evil can be eliminated is by submission to Almighty God and His ways.
Push God out of a society and evil will prevail. People who don’t want to follow God will end up following evil. Those who do not want the goodness of God will experience the wickedness of Satan and their own natural inclinations toward evil—
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” —Romans 1:18:32
Don’t want to follow the clear revelation of God through creation, conscience, His Word or His Son Jesus, then the above passage gives the results of that decision. Hearts will be darkened and people will not think correctly. Those who think they are wise are actually fools. Creation will be worshipped and sexuality will be perverted. Minds will be depraved and wickedness with increase. People will come up with new ways of doing wickedness. Those doing wickedness will approve of others who are also practicing wickedness. So there you have it… Does it sound like our culture? Let me be clear. Unless there is a turning to God in repentance and for salvation from sin and to a relationship with Him through Jesus… then there is NO HOPE!
Oh Dear Father may our nation wake up and see how it has fallen away from You and is now reaping the harvest of that choice. Oh may we repent and follow You and Your ways.
