SEEK GOD’S WILL AND NOT YOUR OWN

SEEK GOD’S WILL AND NOT YOUR OWN

If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood. —John 7:17-18

“And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world” (I John 4:14).        Our Father sent Jesus into this world to be the Savior of the Word. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 2:16).  “Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!” (John 8:45).  Those who want to do God’s will understand that Jesus is speaking the truth.  Those who do not want to do God’s will do not understand that Jesus is speaking the truth.

Why is it that they cannot understand Jesus?

“Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?  Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” —John 8:43-47

And there you have it.  The reason there are so many that cannot understand Jesus’ teaching is that they do not belong to God.  Those who belong to Him will understand or come to an understanding of what He teaches.  “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).  The vast majority of people are on the broad road to destruction because they do not want to do God’s will.  Instead they want to do their own will.

Now here is a good measurement of someone claiming to follow Jesus.  Are they seeking glory for themselves or are they seeking God’s glory?  Are they exalting themselves or are they seeking to exalt God.  Stay clear of those exalting self and seeking their own glory!

Dear Father may I listen to what Jesus says and may I be seeking Your glory and not my own.  May I be exalting Your Name and not my own.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxB9VH3cCN4
