Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. —I John 3:2

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. —I John 4:4-6

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. —I John 4:16

Wow… “to know and to believe the love that God has for us” is totally astounding!  Before we found the “peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” by faith (Romans 5:1), we were enemies of God (Romans 5:10).  It was even while we were enemies Jesus died for us so that we could be reconciled to God through Him.  For all who have “called on the Name of the Lord” are saved from their sin and saved to a relationship with God through Jesus (Romans 10:13).  Wow!

Now all those who have truly, sincerely called on Jesus for salvation (not just going through the motions and then doing whatever they want), they are now children of God.  Imagine that!  Being loved by God and being a child of God and He always has our best interest in mind!

Many wonder what we are going to be like in heaven and wonder if will we know each other.  What is the answer?  Well, when Jesus appears “we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”  Whatever Jesus’ body is like is what our body is going to be like.  And we will recognize Jesus and we will know each other as well, just as Peter knew Moses and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew 16:1-13).  Yes, of course we will know each other after this life (Luke 16:19-31).

As children of God we know how to recognize and have overcome false spirits/prophets.  The Holy Spirit of God resides in us, in God’s children, and He is greater than any false spirit/prophet.  The world will listen to false spirits/prophets because they speak from the viewpoint of the world.  Those who are God’s children speak from God’s viewpoint.  This is how the children of God “recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.”  God’s children will adhere to His Word as final authority.  False spirits/prophets will adhere to worldly ideas.

We who have called on Jesus are now the children of God.  We are at peace with God.  We are no longer enemies of God, but now are friends (John 15:15).  Oh, that He would be my and your Best Friend!

Dear Father it is overwhelming when I sit and ponder Who You are, who I am and all that You have done, are doing and will do for me.  My mind cannot grasp only a fraction, but I am grateful to know what I know.  May I grow in knowing You by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son.  So may it be!
