THE DISPELLING OF DOUBT
THE DISPELLING OF DOUBT
Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” And Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them and blessed is the one who is not offended by me.” —Matthew 11:2-6
Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. —Matthew 11:22
Our Lord Jesus gives a wonderful testimony about John the Baptist. He did this while John was in a state of doubt, wondering if Jesus was the Messiah to come or was there another one coming that was the Messiah. It was while John was in this doubting mindset that our Lord shared these wonderful words about John.
Jesus does not condemn doubt. Instead, Jesus sent His Word to John and sent His testimony to John. When we doubt we need to hear His Word and be reminded of His Works! This dispels the doubt of Who Jesus is and What He is doing!
Again, doubt is not condemned by Jesus, but He does not want us to stay there. Even when the eleven were gathered on the mountain Jesus commanded them to go, some of the eleven doubted even then, even after His resurrection! Did Jesus reprimand them? No, He commissioned them all to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:16-20). Even the doubters were to go. Here is the key… even when we doubt… continue! The doubt will disappear when we gain perspective of Who He is, who we are, What He is doing and what He desires us to do while His presence is ever with us.
Are you doubting today? Ponder the person of Jesus. Ponder His works. Ponder His Word. Ponder how He has worked in your life and keep following Him. The doubt will disappear with new perspective.
Dear Father I am truly amazed and astounded as I consider how You sent Your Son to be the Savior of the world. I am grateful to know that “whoever calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.” Thank You for saving me from my sin through Jesus and now may I bring this message to many by the power of Your Holy Spirit and through the authority of Your Son Jesus. Thank You that when we doubt You do not condemn. But help us not to remain in a state of doubt. Help our doubt disappear as we look to You. May it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DpPffRpQCQ
