WORK’S FOCUS AND CHOICES

 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.”  Then the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, “Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? —Haggai 1:2-4

 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. And they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king. —Haggai 1:14-15

 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the LORD. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. Work, for I am with you, declares the LORD of hosts. —Haggai 2:4

             God has called each of us to “work” (Ephesians 2:10). That is one main reason we were created in Christ Jesus. So how are we doing with the work He has prepared in advance that we should work those works? Are we not to be people of God zealous for good works? (Titus 2:14). So the question I have for myself and for you is— “Are we being zealous in the work God has created for us to do?” Do we even know what that work is?

            Do a quick check… Where and what is the focus of my time? Where and what is the focus of my energy? Where and on what do I focus my abilities, talents and giftedness? Just whose kingdom am I focused on— building my own or His? The people in Haggai’s day were focused and building on their own desires and not our Lord’s desires. How about us? Truly… where is our focus?

            But then our Lord stirred up an individual, Zerubbabel and then He stirred up the people as well to focus on the Lord’s work. The people were told by our Lord to be strong and to work because our Lord was with them. Is our Lord stirring you to focus on His Work? I know He has been encouraging me to do so and may I do so! I would invite you along with me to work the work He has created beforehand that we should work that work. Dear Father may I honor You with the life You have given me and be about the work You have prepared for me to do. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. So be it!
