DESIRE’S FOCUS

How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. —Psalm 84:1-2

For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you! —Psalm 84:10-12

            Oh what better place is there to be than in the presence of our Lord? Let us long to be in His presence now… but more so to be with Him in glory forever! Is that where our desires are? If not then we either do not know Him or are clinging to something idolatress in our lives.

            One day in His presence “is better than a thousand elsewhere.” Think of the most beautiful place on this planet that would be utterly pleasing to us. Which would you pick— a thousand days there or being in the Lord’s presence for a day?   The answer you give is an indicator of your relationship with Him or lack thereof.

            There are the wicked that “enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25).   Even though that is the case and it appears that the wicked are truly enjoying life, “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Just to be in His presence would be enough. No amount of wicked please even comes close to the joy of being with Him.

            What joy and I will sing of it. I will “sing for joy to the living God.” He “bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Why would I turn to anyone or anything else? I would be a fool to do so! “O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!” Are you trusting in Him? If so, you are blessed! Rejoice! Dear Father there is no better place than to be in Your presence.   I surely look forward to being with Jesus and all who love Him forever in glory. Yes, I truly long to be there. But until then may I live faithfully for You now in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
