Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. —Joshua 1:9

Be strong and courageous… —Joshua 1:6

Above all, be strong and very courageous… —Joshua 1:7

…Above all, be strong and courageous! —Joshua 1:18

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. —Ephesians 6:10

God has said: “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”   So we say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” —Hebrews 13:5-6

Courage… is bravery and a fearlessness. Cowardice… is spinlessness and a fearfulness. How can we be courageous? It is through the power of our Lord God Almighty. Trusting who Jesus is and trusting His purposes and plans for our lives will give us courage. Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]”

Jesus wants us to experience peace in our lives and the only way to know peace is to know that He has overcome the world and that we are overcomers in Him (I John 5:1-5). Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).

We need to have the courage that comes from trusting Jesus because we will face all kinds of difficulty in this world. We can have this courage because He said that He would never leave us or forsake us. He is our helper through the good and the bad times. We are to be courageous during these times and not be afraid. Courage overcomes fear. Faith in Him who is Faithful causes fear to flee and courage to stand firm as we are “strong in the Lord.”

Lack of courage is a lack of trusting our Lord God Almighty.   Discouragement is also a lack of trusting in our Lord God Almighty. His Holy Spirit encourages us. He puts courage into us. May we trust Him for this when we fear and lack courage. Yes Dear Father may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
