MY HOPE!
MY HOPE!
“O LORD, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah Surely a man goes about as a shadow! Surely for nothing they are in turmoil; man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather! “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.” —Psalm 39:4-7
How is it that I will soon be 66 years of age? How is it that I am already 4 years older than my father when he died? It seems just yesterday that I was frolicking the mountainside with my siblings and cousins. There is an end to this life and it is of eternal importance to be ready for that time. I am so glad to know that I am ready, that I am safe in Jesus. So glad to be able to serve Him now and then be with Him forever when the end comes. When the end comes… an eternal beginning starts! Wow! Think of that…
But our days are measured here. There is a date of our departure on God’s calendar. We need to recognized and acknowledge how fleeting our lives are. Many do not want to think about this and they do not prepare for that time. What a disaster that is and it is a play of Satan to keep people busy and distracted so they will not think a time when their life will end here. Satan does not want people to put their hope in Jesus. The schemer desires people to be self-focused, this life focused.
Our lives are but a “few handbreadths” which is the palm of the hand— 2.5 to 4 inches. Hold your hand up in front of you, palm facing you. Your life is only but a few of those. Actually, compared to our Lord, our lifetime is nothing before Him. How does a few decades measure compared to eternity? It doesn’t even show up! Yet our gracious God is bringing all those who love Him into eternity with Him. Wow! How thankful we should be.
We are told in the above passage that even all mankind is but a mere breath! Breathe in and out once. That is the measure of mankind in comparison to our Lord God Almighty! Let us put our hope in Him and not in wealth or anything else. May we have right perspective and focus on who we are and who He is. Yes, Dear Father may that be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrgl9z3grKU
