TRUSTWORTHY FOLLOWERS
Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. And let them judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but any small matter they shall decide themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you. —Exodus 18:21-22
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. —II Timothy 2:2
Discipleship… am I willing to work with other people, to delegate to other people, to help other people to be and do what God desires? Will I encourage others in the will and work of God? Will I be obedient to God’s call and command upon my life?
Here is the type of people God is looking for and we are to look for as well when seeking to further God’s desires and work…
- Look for able men
- Look for men who fear God
- Look for men who are trustworthy
- Look for men who hate bribes
- Look for men who are able to guide thousands
- Look for men who are able to guide hundreds
- Look for men who are able to guide fifties
- Look for men who are able to guide tens
- Look for men who are able to make judgments
- Look for men who can be delegated to be decision makers
- Look for men who will be able to make the work easier
- Look for men who will bear the burden with you
- Look for men who are reliable
- Look for men who can be trusted
- Look for men who can teach others
First, as I look down through this list, am I that type of person? What is my capacity? Am I willing to bear a part of the burden of ministry to make the lives of others easier? Will I serve with others to accomplish God’s desires and work? How am I presently involed in the desires and work of God? Am I a reliable person? Do I truly love God and people? Am I being honest with God and myself and others when I answer these questions? Can others truly trust me?
