THE REQUEST OF GOD YOU HAVE

THE REQUEST OF GOD YOU HAVE

Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great? —II Chronicles 1:10

At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you… So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours? —I Kings 3:5, 9

You have probably heard the fable about the genie offering three wishes to be granted. You rub the magic lamp, the genie comes out of it and then you can ask your first wish, then the second, then the third. If you had three wishes, what would you wish for? Truly, what comes to mind immediately?

God is neither genie, nor Santa Claus or grandfather figure who gives in to their grandchildren’s every desire. No, God is the Maker and Ruler of everything seen or unseen. He only gives good gifts (Luke 11:11-13; James 1:17).   These gifts are for the good of His children within His purposes and plans. He knows what is best for us and that is what He will give us. Let us rejoice in His grace.

God told Solomon to “Ask for whatever you want me to give you” and He would do it! Imagine God saying that to you! Seriously, if God were to say that to you, what comes to mind first? Solomon responded by saying “Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?” Wisdom and knowledge was his desire to be able to govern. Wisdom and knowledge— Was that first on your mind?   Was it your thought to ask for a discerning heart to know right and wrong among people?

Dear Father please give me wisdom, knowledge and a discerning heart to be able to serve as You desire me to. Oh may this be so to bring honor and glory to Your Name and for the benefit of others. Help me to serve in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.   May it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZPkWvVlliU
