CONSEQUENCES FOR DISOBEDIENCE

CONSEQUENCES FOR DISOBEDIENCE

And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the LORD commanded. Therefore the LORD said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.” —I Kings 11:9-11

There are consequences to disobedience. Do we think that when we disobey what we know our Lord desires that He does not get angry? Jesus was angry at those with stubborn hears and deeply distress because of them (Mark 3:5).   “The Lord became exceedingly angry” with the peoples’ dissatisfaction with the manna He had provided for them every day. The Lord also was angry with Moses and his excuses for not being obedient (Exodus 4:1-17).   So also our Lord was angry with Israel (I Chronicles 27:24; II Samuel 24:1). Let us not think for a moment that God does not get angry and that there are not consequences for disobedience— “Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him” (Psalm 2:12).

In the above passage our Lord was angry with Solomon because of his disobedience.   For practicing disobedience our Lord said, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.” Solomon’s disobedience would impact the whole nation.

Let us ponder this— our disobedience does not only affect ourselves.   It also affects others. Just was obedience has an impact on others so will disobedience. Oh, may we seek to be faithful in the Lord’s desires for us and have a positive impact for His Glory. Dear Father may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xNHiRXnFyg
