SOVEREIGN OVER EVERYDAY LIFE

But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.” —Ruth 1:16-17

Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez fathered Hezron, Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab, Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon, Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David. —Ruth 4:18-21

Our God of redemption is always at work all over the world working redemption in many lives.  The Book of Ruth is a short summary of how He brings about redemption in people’s lives through the everyday workings in people’s lives.  It shows how God is intimately at work in people’s lives through their sorrows, suffering, survival and sojourns.  What appears to be hopeless is not hopeless when we know the Sovereign God of the Universe!

When tragedy and grief came into Naomi’s family while in a foreign land, it did not look to hopeful.  The first glimmer of hope was when Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.”  Ruth was loyal and committed to her mother-in-law and to the God of Israel.  The two women journeyed back to Bethlehem.

Through their need to eat circumstances ordained by God caused Ruth to glean for food.  She ended up in a field owned by a redeemer kinsman who, again through circumstances ordained by God, redeemed Ruth and the property of her dead husband.  Again, this Moabite women who aligned with Israel’s God becomes the wife of Boaz, having a son named Obed who turns out to be the grandfather of King David from whose descendant the Messiah would come!

God works through the everyday workings we are involved in to bring about redemption to people around us.  May we be faithful to do the part He desires of us so He can bless others through us.  Yes, Dear Father, may it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ohvhmGSfxI
