SPUR EACH OTHER ON!

SPUR EACH OTHER ON!

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. —Hebrews 10:24-25

I have run into those many times who have said that they do not need to attend a local church. Those who say such things do not have an understanding of what God says about the universal and local church, Jesus being the only Head of it. There are professing believers that say they don’t need to attend a local church, but this is an excuse to live life like they want to live life. It is a selfish attitude. On one hand these people say they know what God says in His Word and yet they are disobedient in not doing what He says.

Being part of a local church is a joy. It is wonderful to be with other followers of Jesus who are seeking to grow in Him and serve Him together. The verses above speak about gathering with others. We are to consider how to “spur one another on.” This takes prayer, thought and action as we consider how our Lord desires us to do this. Believers in a local church are to spur each other toward love. God is love and we are to encourage each other to grow in that love (John 13:34-35; I John 4:7-8). Godly love will lead to godly service for which we were created in Christ Jesus for (Ephesians 2:10). What we do in any area of life comes out of who we are.

We are also told to be “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing.” There are those who are in the habit of not meeting together and this is disobedience. It is contrary to God’s plan and desires. It is hard to spur others on when you are an island to yourself. They have a low view of His bride, His church.

This spurring on of each other is to be “all the more as you see the Day approaching.” As the time of Jesus return draws closer and closer followers of Jesus are to be encouraging each other more and more and this happens in and through the local church and church universal. How are you involved in this?

The “Day” is getting closer when Jesus will come for His bride, the church. The church is every person world-wide who is His (I Corinthians 6:19-20). Rejoice follower of Jesus as we will soon be with Jesus and all who love Him, His bride! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_as9yxrf6E

Thank You dear Father for Jesus being Head of His church and for me being part of His church. May I be faithfully serving as You desire of me. Oh, that this would come out of my love for You and my love for people. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son, Jesus. So be it!
